बालकांड
एकोनषष्टितमस्सर्गः

उक्त वाक्यं तु राजानं कृपया कुशिकात्मज ।
अब्रवीन्मधुरं वाक्यं साक्षात् चंडालरूपिणम् ॥

स॥ कुशिकात्मजः चंडालरूपिणं राजानं उक्त वाक्यं ( श्रुत्वा) कृपया मधुरं वाक्यं अब्रवीत्।

Hearing those words of the king in chandala form, he ( Viswamitra) spoke sweet words with compassion.
,
इक्ष्वाक स्वागतं वत्स जानामि त्वां सुधार्मिकम् ।
शरणं ते भविष्यामि माभैषीः नृप पुंगवः॥

स॥ " हे इक्ष्वाक ! वत्स स्वागतं । माभैषीः । त्वां सुधार्मिकं जानामि । हे नृपपुंगव ! शरणं ते भविष्यामि । "|

"Oh Ikshwaka ! Oh Son ! Welcome. Do not be afraid. I know your righteousness. Oh Best of Kings! I am giving you protection".

अहमामंत्रये सर्वान् महर्षीन् पुण्यकर्मणः ।
यज्ञसाह्यकरान् राजन् ततो यक्ष्यसि निर्वृतः ॥

स॥ हे राजन् ! अहं यज्ञसाह्याकरन् पुण्यकर्मणः सर्वान् महर्षीन् आमंत्रये ! ततः निर्वृतः यक्ष्यसि ।

'Oh Rajan ! I am inviting people who have done many good deeds to help in the sacrifice. You may do the sacrifice without a worry'.

गुरुशापकृतं रूपं यदिदं त्वयि वर्तते।
अनेन सह रूपेण सशरीरो गमिष्यसि ॥

स॥ यत् इदं गुरुशापकृतं रूपं त्वयि वर्तते अनेन रूपेण सह स शरीरो गमिष्यसि ॥

'You will go along with your body though the body may be in form of a chandala because of your masters curse'
हस्त प्राप्तमहं मन्ये स्वर्गं तव नराधिप ।
यस्त्वं कौशिकमागम्य शरण्यं शरणागतः॥

स॥ यदा कौशिकं शरण्यं त्वं शरणागतः आगम्य अहं मन्ये तव स्वर्गं हस्तः प्राप्तः ॥

'You have sought protection from a Kausika who can give such protection. I believe that attaining heaven is already at hand'.

एवमुक्त्वा महातेजाः पुत्त्रान् परमधार्मिकान् ।
व्यादिदेश महाप्राज्ञान् यज्ञसंभार कारणात् ॥

स॥ महतेजाः एवं उक्त्वा परमधार्मिकान् महाप्राज्ञान् पुत्त्रान् यज्ञसंभारकारणात् व्यादिदेश ॥

Then the highly radiant one having said as above directed his experienced and righteous sons to get all the requirements for a sacrifice.

सर्वान् शिष्यान् समाहूय वाक्य मेतदुवाच ह ।
सर्वान् ऋषिगणान् वत्सा अनय्ध्वं ममाज्ञया ॥
सशिष्य सुहृदश्चैव सर्त्विजस्सबहुश्रुतान् ।

स॥ सर्वान् शिष्यान् समाहूय एतद् वाक्यं उवाच ह ।"वत्सा ! सर्वान् ऋषिगणान् स शिष्य सुहृदश्चैव स ऋत्विज स बहुश्रुतान् मम आज्ञया आनयध्वम् ॥

Then he called all his disciples and told them as follows. " Dear ones bring all the legions of Rishis along with their friends , Ritvijas and all the knowledgeable ones as my order"

यदन्यो वचनं ब्रूयात् मद्वाक्यबलचोदितः ॥
तत्सर्वमखिलेनोक्तं ममाख्येयमनादृतम् ॥

स॥ यदि अन्यो वचनं ब्रूयात् मद्वाक्य बलचोदितः तत् सर्वं अनादृतं ममाख्ये ||

" If anyone does not follow my request and tells otherwise please tell me that also."

तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा दिशो जग्मुः तदाज्ञया ।
अजग्नुरथ देशेभ्यो सर्वेभ्यो ब्रह्मवादिनः ॥

स॥ तस्य तत् वचनं श्रुत्वा तत् आज्ञया दिशो जग्मुः । अथ देशेभ्यो सर्वेभ्यो ब्रह्मवादिनः अजग्मुः॥

Following his words the disciples went out in all directions . Then Brahmavadis from all over the country came.

ते च शिष्यास्समागम्य मुनिं ज्वलिततेजसम् ।
ऊचुश्च वचनं सर्वे सर्वेषां ब्रह्मवादिनाम् ॥

स॥ ते शिष्याः समागम्य ज्वलित तेजसं मुनिं सर्वे सर्वेषांब्रह्मवादिनां वचनं ऊचुः च ॥

Then the disciples came back and told that sage who is glowing like fire all that was said by the Brahmavadis.

श्रुत्वा ते वचनं सर्वे समायांति द्विजातयः ।
सर्वदेशेषु चागच्छन् वर्जयित्वा महोदयम् ॥

स॥ "ते वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्व देशेषु सर्वे द्विजातयः समायांति महोदयं वर्जयित्वा आगच्छन् ॥

" Following your words the Brahmins from all the countries are coming except for 'Mahodaya'. "

वाशिष्ठं तच्चतं सर्वं क्रोथ पर्याकुलेक्षणः ।
यदाह वचनं सर्वं श्रुणु त्वं मुनिपुंगव ॥

स॥ हे मुनिपुंगव ! तत् शतं वासिष्ठंक्रोथ पर्याकुलेक्षणः यत् आह तत् सर्वं त्वं श्रुणु ॥

"Oh Best of sages ! we will tell you what the hundred sons of Vasishta told with anger in their eyes. Please hear".

क्षत्रियो याजकोयस्य च्चंडालस्य विशेषतः ।
कथं सदसि भोक्तारो हविस्तस्य सुरर्षयः ॥

स॥ अस्य विशेषतः चंडालस्य याजकः क्षत्रियः । सदसि सुरः ऋषयः कथं भोक्तारो ( इति) ॥

'The sacrifice of chandala is being conducted by a Kshatriya . In that ceremony how will Devas and Brahmans take their food ?'

ब्राह्मणा वा महात्मानो भुक्त्वा चंडालभोजनम् ।
कथं स्वर्गं गमिष्यंति विश्वामित्रेण पालिता ॥

स॥विश्वामित्रेण पालिता ब्राह्मणा वा महात्मानो चंडाल भोजनं भुक्त्वा कथं स्वर्गं गमिष्यंति ( इति)

'Directed by Viswamitra and partaking in the meals even Brahmans or great ones how will they reach the heaven !'.

एतद्वचन नैष्ठुर्यम् ऊचुः संरक्त लोचनः ।
वासिष्ठा मुनिशार्दूल सर्वे ते समहोदयाः ॥

स॥ हे मुनिशार्दूल ! सर्वे ते महोदयाः वासिष्ठा संरक्त लोचनः एतत् नैष्ठूर्यं वचनं ऊचुः ॥

"Oh Best of sages ! the Mahodaya and the sons of Vasishta spoke these words of disrespect in anger with eyes reddened with blood".

तेषां तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा सर्वेषां मुनिपुंगवः ।
क्रोधसंयुक्त नयनः सरोषं इदमब्रवीत् ॥

स॥ तत् वचनं श्रुत्वा क्रोध संयुक्त नयनः तेषां सर्वेषां स रोषं इदं अब्रवीत् ॥

'Hearing those words and very much upset he( Viswamitra) spoke to all of them with his eyes turned blood red'.
ये दूषयंत्यदुष्ठं मां तपौग्रं समास्थितम् ।
भस्मी भूता दुरात्मानो भविष्यंति न संशयः ॥

स॥ अदुष्टं तप उग्रं समास्थितं मां ये दूषयंत्यः । भस्मी भूता भविष्यंति न संशयः इति ॥

" Against me who is not an evil one , and who is a great performer of penance, they are using evil words. They will turn to ashes . There is no doubt about that !"

अद्य ते कालपाशेन नीता वैवस्वतक्षयम् ।
सप्तजातिशतान्येव मृतपास्संतु सर्वशः ॥

स॥ अद्य ते कालपाशेन नीता वैवस्वत क्षयम् । जाति सर्वशः सप्त शतानि एव मृतपाः संतु ।

"Today they will be dragged to hell by the shackles of time , they will live seven hundred years eating dead bodies".

श्वमांस नियताहारा मुष्टिका नाम निर्घृणाः।
विकृताश्च विरूपाश्च लोकाननुचरंत्विमान् ॥

स॥ (ते) स्वमांस नियत आहारा ( भवंति) । इमान् विकृताः च विरूपाः च मुष्टिका नाम निर्घृणाः लोकान् अनुचर्वंति ।

"Eating dog flesh, deformed and ugly they will be known as Mushtikas roaming in this world".

महोदयस्तु दुर्बुद्धिः ममदुष्यं ह्यदूषयत् ।
दूषितास्सर्वलोकेषु निषादत्वं गमिष्यसि ॥

स॥ दुर्बुद्धिः महोदयः मम दुष्यं ह्य अदूषयत् । सर्वलोकेषु दूषिताः निषादत्वं गमिष्यसि ॥

"That Mahodaya with evil mind also spoke evil about me who cannot be spoken of as evil. So he will be a Kirataka and be spoken of as evil in all the worlds" .

प्राणातिपात निरतो नरनु क्रोशतां गतः ।
दीर्घकालं मम क्रोधात् दुर्गतिं वर्तयिष्यति॥

स॥ दीर्घकालं मम क्रोधात् प्राणातिपात निरतो निरनुक्रोशतां गतः दुर्गतिं वर्त इष्यति ॥

'Having earned my wrath he will live long (as a kirataka) taking life without pity and leading a wretched life'.

एतावदुक्त्वा वचनं विश्वामित्रो महतपाः ।
विरराम महातेजा ऋषिमध्ये महामुनिः ॥

स॥ एतावत् वचनं ऋषिमध्ये उक्त्वा महामुनिः विश्वामित्रः महातपाः विरराम ॥

Having said these words in the midst of all Rishis , the great sage became silent.

|| इत्वार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये बालकांडे एकोनषष्टितमस्सर्गः॥

Thus the fifty ninth Saga of Balakanda in Valmiki Ramayana comes to an end.
