ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡ
ಏಕೋನಷಷ್ಟಿತಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ

ಉಕ್ತ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ತು ರಾಜಾನಂ ಕೃಪಯಾ ಕುಶಿಕಾತ್ಮಜ |
ಅಬ್ರವೀನ್ಮಧುರಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ಚಂಡಾಲರೂಪಿಣಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ಕುಶಿಕಾತ್ಮಜಃ ಚಂಡಾಲರೂಪಿಣಂ ರಾಜಾನಂ ಉಕ್ತ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ( ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ) ಕೃಪಯಾ ಮಧುರಂ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್|

Hearing those words of the king in chandala form, he ( Viswamitra) spoke sweet words with compassion.

ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕ ಸ್ವಾಗತಂ ವತ್ಸ ಜಾನಾಮಿ ತ್ವಾಂ ಸುಧಾರ್ಮಿಕಮ್ |
ಶರಣಂ ತೇ ಭವಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ ಮಾಭೈಷೀಃ ನೃಪ ಪುಂಗವಃ||

ಸ|| " ಹೇ ಇಕ್ಷ್ವಾಕ ! ವತ್ಸ ಸ್ವಾಗತಂ | ಮಾಭೈಷೀಃ | ತ್ವಾಂ ಸುಧಾರ್ಮಿಕಂ ಜಾನಾಮಿ | ಹೇ ನೃಪಪುಂಗವ ! ಶರಣಂ ತೇ ಭವಿಷ್ಯಾಮಿ | "|

"Oh Ikshwaka ! Oh Son welcome. Donot be afraid. I know your righteousness. Oh Best of Kings! I am giving you protection".

ಅಹಮಾಮಂತ್ರಯೇ ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಮಹರ್ಷೀನ್ ಪುಣ್ಯಕರ್ಮಣಃ |
ಯಜ್ಞಸಾಹ್ಯಕರಾನ್ ರಾಜನ್ ತತೋ ಯಕ್ಷ್ಯಸಿ ನಿರ್ವೃತಃ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ರಾಜನ್ ! ಅಹಂ ಯಜ್ಞಸಾಹ್ಯಾಕರನ್ ಪುಣ್ಯಕರ್ಮಣಃ ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಮಹರ್ಷೀನ್ ಆಮಂತ್ರಯೇ ! ತತಃ ನಿರ್ವೃತಃ ಯಕ್ಷ್ಯಸಿ |

'Oh Rajan ! I am inviting people who have done many good deeds to help in the sacrifice. You may do the sacrifice without a worry'.

ಗುರುಶಾಪಕೃತಂ ರೂಪಂ ಯದಿದಂ ತ್ವಯಿ ವರ್ತತೇ|
ಅನೇನ ಸಹ ರೂಪೇಣ ಸಶರೀರೋ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಸಿ ||

ಸ|| ಯತ್ ಇದಂ ಗುರುಶಾಪಕೃತಂ ರೂಪಂ ತ್ವಯಿ ವರ್ತತೇ ಅನೇನ ರೂಪೇಣ ಸಹ ಸ ಶರೀರೋ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಸಿ ||

"You will go along with your body though the body may be in form of a chandala because of your masters curse"

ಹಸ್ತ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಮಹಂ ಮನ್ಯೇ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಂ ತವ ನರಾಧಿಪ |
ಯಸ್ತ್ವಂ ಕೌಶಿಕಮಾಗಮ್ಯ ಶರಣ್ಯಂ ಶರಣಾಗತಃ||

ಸ|| ಯದಾ ಕೌಶಿಕಂ ಶರಣ್ಯಂ ತ್ವಂ ಶರಣಾಗತಃ ಆಗಮ್ಯ ಅಹಂ ಮನ್ಯೇ ತವ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಂ ಹಸ್ತಃ ಪ್ರಾಪ್ತಃ ||

'You have sought protection from a Kausika who can give such protection. I believe that attaining heaven is alreday at hand'.

ಏವಮುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಮಹಾತೇಜಾಃ ಪುತ್ತ್ರಾನ್ ಪರಮಧಾರ್ಮಿಕಾನ್ |
ವ್ಯಾದಿದೇಶ ಮಹಾಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞಾನ್ ಯಜ್ಞಸಂಭಾರ ಕಾರಣಾತ್ ||

ಸ|| ಮಹತೇಜಾಃ ಏವಂ ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಪರಮಧಾರ್ಮಿಕಾನ್ ಮಹಾಪ್ರಾಜ್ಞಾನ್ ಪುತ್ತ್ರಾನ್ ಯಜ್ಞಸಂಭಾರಕಾರಣಾತ್ ವ್ಯಾದಿದೇಶ ||

Then the highly radiant one having said as above directed his experienced and righteous sons to get all the requirements for a sacrifice.

ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಶಿಷ್ಯಾನ್ ಸಮಾಹೂಯ ವಾಕ್ಯ ಮೇತದುವಾಚ ಹ |
ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಋಷಿಗಣಾನ್ ವತ್ಸಾ ಅನಯ್ಧ್ವಂ ಮಮಾಜ್ಞಯಾ ||
ಸಶಿಷ್ಯ ಸುಹೃದಶ್ಚೈವ ಸರ್ತ್ವಿಜಸ್ಸಬಹುಶ್ರುತಾನ್ |

ಸ|| ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಶಿಷ್ಯಾನ್ ಸಮಾಹೂಯ ಏತದ್ ವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಉವಾಚ ಹ |"ವತ್ಸಾ ! ಸರ್ವಾನ್ ಋಷಿಗಣಾನ್ ಸ ಶಿಷ್ಯ ಸುಹೃದಶ್ಚೈವ ಸ ಋತ್ವಿಜ ಸ ಬಹುಶ್ರುತಾನ್ ಮಮ ಆಜ್ಞಯಾ ಆನಯಧ್ವಮ್ ||

Then he called all his disciples and told them as follows. " Dear ones bring all the legions of Rishis along with their friends , Ritvijas and all the knowledgeable ones as my order"

ಯದನ್ಯೋ ವಚನಂ ಬ್ರೂಯಾತ್ ಮದ್ವಾಕ್ಯಬಲಚೋದಿತಃ ||
ತತ್ಸರ್ವಮಖಿಲೇನೋಕ್ತಂ ಮಮಾಖ್ಯೇಯಮನಾದೃತಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ಯದಿ ಅನ್ಯೋ ವಚನಂ ಬ್ರೂಯಾತ್ ಮದ್ವಾಕ್ಯ ಬಲಚೋದಿತಃ ತತ್ ಸರ್ವಂ ಅನಾದೃತಂ ಮಮಾಖ್ಯೇ ||

" If anyone does not follow my request and tells otherwise please tell me that also."

ತಸ್ಯ ತದ್ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ದಿಶೋ ಜಗ್ಮುಃ ತದಾಜ್ಞಯಾ |
ಅಜಗ್ನುರಥ ದೇಶೇಭ್ಯೋ ಸರ್ವೇಭ್ಯೋ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವಾದಿನಃ ||

ಸ|| ತಸ್ಯ ತತ್ ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ತತ್ ಆಜ್ಞಯಾ ದಿಶೋ ಜಗ್ಮುಃ | ಅಥ ದೇಶೇಭ್ಯೋ ಸರ್ವೇಭ್ಯೋ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವಾದಿನಃ ಅಜಗ್ಮುಃ||

Following his words the disciples went out in all directions . Then Brahmavadis from all over the country came.

ತೇ ಚ ಶಿಷ್ಯಾಸ್ಸಮಾಗಮ್ಯ ಮುನಿಂ ಜ್ವಲಿತತೇಜಸಮ್ |
ಊಚುಶ್ಚ ವಚನಂ ಸರ್ವೇ ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮವಾದಿನಾಮ್ ||

ಸ|| ತೇ ಶಿಷ್ಯಾಃ ಸಮಾಗಮ್ಯ ಜ್ವಲಿತ ತೇಜಸಂ ಮುನಿಂ ಸರ್ವೇ ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂಬ್ರಹ್ಮವಾದಿನಾಂ ವಚನಂ ಊಚುಃ ಚ ||

Then the disciples came back and told that sage who is glowing like fire all that was said by the Brahmavadis.

ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ತೇ ವಚನಂ ಸರ್ವೇ ಸಮಾಯಾಂತಿ ದ್ವಿಜಾತಯಃ |
ಸರ್ವದೇಶೇಷು ಚಾಗಚ್ಛನ್ ವರ್ಜಯಿತ್ವಾ ಮಹೋದಯಮ್ ||

ಸ|| "ತೇ ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಸರ್ವ ದೇಶೇಷು ಸರ್ವೇ ದ್ವಿಜಾತಯಃ ಸಮಾಯಾಂತಿ ಮಹೋದಯಂ ವರ್ಜಯಿತ್ವಾ ಆಗಚ್ಛನ್ ||

" Following your words the Brahmins from all the countries are coming except for 'Mahodaya'. "

ವಾಶಿಷ್ಠಂ ತಚ್ಚತಂ ಸರ್ವಂ ಕ್ರೋಥ ಪರ್ಯಾಕುಲೇಕ್ಷಣಃ |
ಯದಾಹ ವಚನಂ ಸರ್ವಂ ಶ್ರುಣು ತ್ವಂ ಮುನಿಪುಂಗವ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಮುನಿಪುಂಗವ ! ತತ್ ಶತಂ ವಾಸಿಷ್ಠಂಕ್ರೋಥ ಪರ್ಯಾಕುಲೇಕ್ಷಣಃ ಯತ್ ಆಹ ತತ್ ಸರ್ವಂ ತ್ವಂ ಶ್ರುಣು ||

"Oh Best of sages ! We will tell you what the hundred sons of Vasishta told with anger in their eyes. Please hear".

ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯೋ ಯಾಜಕೋಯಸ್ಯ ಚ್ಚಂಡಾಲಸ್ಯ ವಿಶೇಷತಃ |
ಕಥಂ ಸದಸಿ ಭೋಕ್ತಾರೋ ಹವಿಸ್ತಸ್ಯ ಸುರರ್ಷಯಃ ||

ಸ|| ಅಸ್ಯ ವಿಶೇಷತಃ ಚಂಡಾಲಸ್ಯ ಯಾಜಕಃ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯಃ | ಸದಸಿ ಸುರಃ ಋಷಯಃ ಕಥಂ ಭೋಕ್ತಾರೋ ( ಇತಿ) ||

'The sacrifice of chandala is being conducted bya Kshatriya . In that ceremony how will Devas and Brahmans take their food ?'

ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಾ ವಾ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾನೋ ಭುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಚಂಡಾಲಭೋಜನಮ್ |
ಕಥಂ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಂ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಂತಿ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೇಣ ಪಾಲಿತಾ ||

ಸ||ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೇಣ ಪಾಲಿತಾ ಬ್ರಾಹ್ಮಣಾ ವಾ ಮಹಾತ್ಮಾನೋ ಚಂಡಾಲ ಭೋಜನಂ ಭುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಕಥಂ ಸ್ವರ್ಗಂ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಂತಿ ( ಇತಿ)

'Directed by Viswamitra and partaking in the meals even Brahmans or great ones how will they reach the heaven !'

ಏತದ್ವಚನ ನೈಷ್ಠುರ್ಯಮ್ ಊಚುಃ ಸಂರಕ್ತ ಲೋಚನಃ |
ವಾಸಿಷ್ಠಾ ಮುನಿಶಾರ್ದೂಲ ಸರ್ವೇ ತೇ ಸಮಹೋದಯಾಃ ||

ಸ|| ಹೇ ಮುನಿಶಾರ್ದೂಲ ! ಸರ್ವೇ ತೇ ಮಹೋದಯಾಃ ವಾಸಿಷ್ಠಾ ಸಂರಕ್ತ ಲೋಚನಃ ಏತತ್ ನೈಷ್ಠೂರ್ಯಂ ವಚನಂ ಊಚುಃ ||

"Oh Best of sages ! The Mahodaya and the sons of Vasishta spoke these words of disrespect in anger with eyes reddened with blood".

ತೇಷಾಂ ತದ್ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಮುನಿಪುಂಗವಃ |
ಕ್ರೋಧಸಂಯುಕ್ತ ನಯನಃ ಸರೋಷಂ ಇದಮಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

ಸ|| ತತ್ ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ಕ್ರೋಧ ಸಂಯುಕ್ತ ನಯನಃ ತೇಷಾಂ ಸರ್ವೇಷಾಂ ಸ ರೋಷಂ ಇದಂ ಅಬ್ರವೀತ್ ||

Hearing those words and very much upset he( Viswamitra) spoke to all of them with his eyes turned blood red.
ಯೇ ದೂಷಯಂತ್ಯದುಷ್ಠಂ ಮಾಂ ತಪೌಗ್ರಂ ಸಮಾಸ್ಥಿತಮ್ |
ಭಸ್ಮೀ ಭೂತಾ ದುರಾತ್ಮಾನೋ ಭವಿಷ್ಯಂತಿ ನ ಸಂಶಯಃ ||

ಸ|| ಅದುಷ್ಟಂ ತಪ ಉಗ್ರಂ ಸಮಾಸ್ಥಿತಂ ಮಾಂ ಯೇ ದೂಷಯಂತ್ಯಃ | ಭಸ್ಮೀ ಭೂತಾ ಭವಿಷ್ಯಂತಿ ನ ಸಂಶಯಃ ಇತಿ ||

" Against me who is not an evil one , and who is a great performer of penance, they are using evil words. They will turn to ashes . There is no doubt about that !"

ಅದ್ಯ ತೇ ಕಾಲಪಾಶೇನ ನೀತಾ ವೈವಸ್ವತಕ್ಷಯಮ್ |
ಸಪ್ತಜಾತಿಶತಾನ್ಯೇವ ಮೃತಪಾಸ್ಸಂತು ಸರ್ವಶಃ ||

ಸ|| ಅದ್ಯ ತೇ ಕಾಲಪಾಶೇನ ನೀತಾ ವೈವಸ್ವತ ಕ್ಷಯಮ್ | ಜಾತಿ ಸರ್ವಶಃ ಸಪ್ತ ಶತಾನಿ ಏವ ಮೃತಪಾಃ ಸಂತು |

"Today they will be dragged to hell by the shackles of time , they will live seven hundred years eating dead bodies".

ಶ್ವಮಾಂಸ ನಿಯತಾಹಾರಾ ಮುಷ್ಟಿಕಾ ನಾಮ ನಿರ್ಘೃಣಾಃ|
ವಿಕೃತಾಶ್ಚ ವಿರೂಪಾಶ್ಚ ಲೋಕಾನನುಚರಂತ್ವಿಮಾನ್ ||

ಸ|| (ತೇ) ಸ್ವಮಾಂಸ ನಿಯತ ಆಹಾರಾ ( ಭವಂತಿ) | ಇಮಾನ್ ವಿಕೃತಾಃ ಚ ವಿರೂಪಾಃ ಚ ಮುಷ್ಟಿಕಾ ನಾಮ ನಿರ್ಘೃಣಾಃ ಲೋಕಾನ್ ಅನುಚರ್ವಂತಿ |

"Eating dog flesh, deformed and ugly they will be known as Mushtikas roaming in this world".

ಮಹೋದಯಸ್ತು ದುರ್ಬುದ್ಧಿಃ ಮಮದುಷ್ಯಂ ಹ್ಯದೂಷಯತ್ |
ದೂಷಿತಾಸ್ಸರ್ವಲೋಕೇಷು ನಿಷಾದತ್ವಂ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಸಿ ||

ಸ|| ದುರ್ಬುದ್ಧಿಃ ಮಹೋದಯಃ ಮಮ ದುಷ್ಯಂ ಹ್ಯ ಅದೂಷಯತ್ | ಸರ್ವಲೋಕೇಷು ದೂಷಿತಾಃ ನಿಷಾದತ್ವಂ ಗಮಿಷ್ಯಸಿ ||

"That Mahodaya with evil mind also spoke evil about me who cannot be spoken of as evil. So he will be a Kirataka and be spoken of as evil in all the three worlds" .

ಪ್ರಾಣಾತಿಪಾತ ನಿರತೋ ನರನು ಕ್ರೋಶತಾಂ ಗತಃ |
ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲಂ ಮಮ ಕ್ರೋಧಾತ್ ದುರ್ಗತಿಂ ವರ್ತಯಿಷ್ಯತಿ||

ಸ|| ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲಂ ಮಮ ಕ್ರೋಧಾತ್ ಪ್ರಾಣಾತಿಪಾತ ನಿರತೋ ನಿರನುಕ್ರೋಶತಾಂ ಗತಃ ದುರ್ಗತಿಂ ವರ್ತ ಇಷ್ಯತಿ ||

"Having earned my wrath he will live long taking life without pity and leading a wretched life".

ಏತಾವದುಕ್ತ್ವಾ ವಚನಂ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರೋ ಮಹತಪಾಃ |
ವಿರರಾಮ ಮಹಾತೇಜಾ ಋಷಿಮಧ್ಯೇ ಮಹಾಮುನಿಃ ||

ಸ|| ಏತಾವತ್ ವಚನಂ ಋಷಿಮಧ್ಯೇ ಉಕ್ತ್ವಾ ಮಹಾಮುನಿಃ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರಃ ಮಹಾತಪಾಃ ವಿರರಾಮ ||

Having said these words in the midst of all Rishis , the great sage became silent.

|| ಇತ್ವಾರ್ಷೇ ಶ್ರೀಮದ್ರಾಮಾಯಣೇ ವಾಲ್ಮೀಕೀಯೇ ಆದಿಕಾವ್ಯೇ ಬಾಲಕಾಂಡೇ ಏಕೋನಷಷ್ಟಿತಮಸ್ಸರ್ಗಃ||

Thus the fiftyninth Saga of Balakanda in Valmiki Ramayana comes to an end.
