Sundarakanda
Sarga 45

After Jambumali was killed Ravana orders the seven sons of the ministers to go and capture Hanuman. They too get killed in the battle with Hanuman. That is the story of forty fifth Sarga.

Now we go with the Slokas of Sarga forty-five.

||Sloka 45.01||

తతస్తే రాక్షసేంద్రేణ చోదితా మంత్రిణస్సుతాః|
నిర్యయుర్భవనాత్ తస్మాత్ సప్తసప్తార్చివర్చసః ||45.01||

స|| తతః రాక్షసేంద్రేణ ఉదితాః మంత్రిణః సప్తార్తి వర్చసః సప్త సుతాః తస్మాత్ భవనా త్ నిర్యయుః||

commanded by the king of Rakshasas,

sporting wonderful bows shining with molten gold
తటిత్వంతః అంబుదా ఇవ -
like clouds shining with lightning

very valiant and delighted

జనన్యస్తు తతస్తేషాం విదితా కింకరాన్ హతాన్|

జనన్యస్తు - mothers too

తే పరస్పరసంఘర్షా తప్తకాంచనభూషణాః|

సృజంతో బాణవృష్టిం తే రథగర్జిత నిస్స్వనాః|
వృష్టిమంత ఇవాంబోధా విచేరుర్నైరృతాంబుదాః||45.07||

స|| రథగర్జిత నిస్వనాః తే నైఋతాంబుదాః బాణవృష్టిమ్ సృజంతః వృష్టిమంతః అమ్బుదా ఇవ విచేరుః||

రథగర్జిత నిస్వనాః - roaring with the chariots rattling
తే నైఋతాంబుదాః బాణవృష్టిమ్ సృజంతః -
they the clouds of demons sent forth torrent of arrows l
వృష్టిమంతః అమ్బుదా ఇవ విచేరుః-
went about like thundering clouds

స శరాన్మోఘయామాస తేషా మాశుచరః కపిః|

స|| ఆశుచరః సః కపిః విమలే అంబరే విచరన్ తేషాం వీరాణాం శరాన్ రథవేగం చ మోఘయామాస||

Vanara capable of moving very fast
విమలే అంబరే విచరన్ -
moving fast in the clear sky
తేషాం వీరాణాం శరాన్ -
the arrows of the heroes
రథవేగం చ మోఘయామాస -
speed of their chariots impotent

స తైః క్రీడన్ ధనుష్మద్భిర్వ్యోమ్ని వీరః ప్రకాశతే|
ధనుష్మద్భిర్యథా మేఘైర్మారుతః ప్రభురంబరే||45.10||

స|| వ్యోమ్ని ధనుష్మద్భిః తైః క్రీడన్ సః వీరః అమ్బరే ధనుష్మద్భిః మేఘైః ప్రభుః మారుతిః యథా ప్రకాశతే||'

వ్యోమ్ని ధనుష్మద్భిః తైః క్రీడన్ -
(being) in the sky playing with those carrying bows in the sky
సః వీరః అమ్బరే - the hero
అమ్బరే మేఘైః ప్రభుః మారుతిః యథా-
like the powerful wind god playing in the sky with the clouds
ప్రకాశతే - shone

సకృత్వా నినదం ఘోరం త్రాసయం స్తాం మహాచమూమ్|

the hero making a loud noise
తామ్ మహాచమూం త్రాసయన్ -
frightening that army of Rakshasas

some with chest
అపరాన్ ఊరుభ్యాం కపిః ప్రమాథ -
some others with thighs the Vanara strangled
తస్య నినాదేన - by his roar
కేచిత్ తత్రైవ భువి పతితాః -
some fell on the ground there itself

తతస్తేష్వవసన్నేషు భూమౌ నిపతితేషు చ|
తత్సైన్యమగమత్ సర్వం దిశోదశ భయార్దితమ్||45.14||

స||తేషు అవసన్నేషు భూమౌ నిపతితేషు చ | తతః సర్వం సైన్యం భయార్దితం దశ దిశః అగమత్||

when they were dead
భూమౌ నిపతితేషు చ -
fallen on the ground
తతః సర్వం సైన్యం భయార్దితం -
then the army struck with fear f

వినేదుర్విస్వరం నాగా నిపేతుర్భువి వాజినః|
భగ్ననీడధ్వజచ్చత్రైర్భూశ్చ కీర్ణాsభవ ద్రథైః||45.15||

స||నాగాః విస్వరమ్ వినేదుః | వాజినః భువి నిపేతుః| భూశ్చ భగ్ననీడధ్వజచ్ఛత్రైః రథైః కీర్ణా అభవత్||

నాగాః విస్వరమ్ వినేదుః -
elephants trumpeted discordantly
వాజినః భువి నిపేతుః -
horses fell down on the ground
భగ్ననీడధ్వజచ్ఛత్రైః రథైః-
with broken seats, parasols, flagstaffs and chariots.
భూశ్చ కీర్ణా అభవత్ -
even earth was littered

Govindaraja in his Tika says - స్రవన్త్యః నద్యః।

ననాద - మారుమోగెను

అథా పథి స్రవతా రుధిరేణ -
streetways with flowing blood
స్రవంత్యః దర్శితాః -
looked like streams
తదా లంకా వివిధైః వికృతం స్వరైః-
then Lanka was filled with many kinds of horrifying sounds
ననాద - reverberated

"Streams of blood flowed. Then Lanka was filled with many kinds of horrifying sounds". ||45.16||

||Sloka 45.17||

సతాన్ప్రవృద్దాన్విహత్య రాక్షసాన్
మహాబలశ్చండపరాక్రమః కపిః|
యుయుత్సురన్యైః పునరేవ రాక్షసైః
తమేవ వీరోఽభిజగామ తోరణమ్||45.17||

స|| వీరః మహాబలః చణ్డ పరాక్రమః స కపిః ప్రవృద్ధాన్ తాన్ రాక్షసాన్ వినిహృత్య అన్యైః యుయుత్సుః పునరేవ తం తోరణమేవ అభిజగామ||

Rama Tika says- మహాబలః కపీః తాన్ రాక్షసాన్ వినిహిత్య అన్యైః పునః యుయుత్సుః సన్ తత్ పూర్వమధిష్టితం తోరణం అభిజగామ।

the mighty hero
చణ్డ పరాక్రమః స కపిః -
fiercely valiant Vanara
ప్రవృద్ధాన్ తాన్ రాక్షసాన్ వినిహృత్య -
having killed mighty Rakshasas
అన్యైః యుయుత్సుః -
desirous of battling others
పునరేవ తం తోరణమేవ అభిజగామ -
again went to that archway.

"The mighty hero , fiercely valiant Vanara having killed mighty Rakshasas desirous of battling others again went to that archway. ." ||45.17||

With the death of the minister's sons and Hanuman coming back to the archway in order to wait for more to come, the Sarga comes to an end.

Thus ends Sarga forty-five of Sundarakanda in Ramayana the very first poem ever composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki.
