Slokas 206-207 with meanings in English
||om tat sat ||
विवेक चूडामणि श्लोकमुलु 206-207
जलं पंकवदत्यंतम्
पंकापाये जलस्फुटं।
यथा भाति तथात्मापि
दोष अभावे स्फुटप्रभः॥ 206||
असन्निवृत्तौतु सदात्मनः स्फुटम्
प्रतीतिरेतस्य भवेत् प्रतीचः।
ततो निरासः करणीय एव
सदात्मनः साध्वहमादि वस्तुनः॥ 207||
Sloka 206
जलं पंकवद् अत्यंतम्
Water which is extremely muddy
पंकापाये जलस्फुटं
when mud is removed water is clear
यथा भाति तथात्मापि-
just as it (clear water) shines so does Self
दोष अभावे स्फुटप्रभः
with impurities are removed, luster is visible
.
The meaning of the Sloak is clear.
Just as water which is extremely muddy , looks clear when mud is removed, Self too shines brightly when the impurities in the form of non- Self are removed.
Guru is saying this to drive a point.
That is one should make effort to remove on Self at every step , so that can see Self in its glory.
Sloka 207
असन्निवृत्तौतु सदात्मना स्फुटम्
प्रतीतिरेतस्य भवेत् प्रतीचः।
ततो निरासः करणीय एव
सदात्मनः साध्वहमादि वस्तुनः॥ 207||
असन्निवृत्तौतु सदात्मनः स्फुटम्
when the unreal ceases to exist , then the eternal self as clear as crystal
प्रतीतिरेतस्य भवेत् प्रतीचः।
it is seen in place of Gross individual Self
So when the unreal ceases to exist, the individual Self is realized as eternal Self
So one must make efforts to separate the unreal at all times. Guru confirms this in the next line.
ततो निरासः करणीय एवा
therefore negation should certainly be done
सदात्मनः साध्वहमादि वस्तुनः।
from eternal self as thoroughly as possible of all that is unreal
Therefore one must make it a point to remove the non-eternal non-Self objects like ego from the eternal Self , to make it shine.
Reading both Slokas together-
The muddy water which is not clear, becomes clear when the mud is removed. Similarly eternal Self too shines when the non-eternal objects like ego etc are removed. So one must make efforts to separate the non-eternal objects from eternal self.
