Chapter 44 is about killing of Kamsa.

Killing of Kamsa is in a way the highlight of Dasama Skandha.

In the very first chapter of Dasama Skandha the insecurity of Kamsa comes out. From the time he comes to know that the eighth child of Devaki is to be his nemesis, all his efforts have been towards thwarting the same. All his efforts to eliminate Krishna starting with sending Putana come to a naught. All these effeorts form part of the first forty three chapters. Finally he invites his nemesis to Mathura with elaborate plans to eliminate him. Even that comes to a naught. When Kamsa finally blurts out orders to capture Krishna, Vasudev and kill father Ugrasena in the open meeting Krishna takes on him and kills him in the wrestling arena arranged for killing Krishna himself. At the end when Krishna and Balaram bow to Devaki and Vasudev as parents, they could not embrace them with familial affection. They were stuck by the happenings of the day which brought to them the fact that this is the Supreme one and he came to deliver them from the treacheries of Kamsa. They became respectful of the supreme one. Even though they knew this from the time of his birth when Krishna himself announced himself as such and it is Devaki herself who pleaded that he assume a normal human form as a child!
