Chapter 5

As Hanuman continues his search for Sita in Royal places, Hanuman saw the Moon up high in the sky spreading the moonlight every where and looking like the raging bull in a Cowpens.

The darkness, which gives incentive to commit dark deeds, has been dispelled by the appearance of bright Moon. The bitterness of mind caused by unrequited love of young ones has also been dispelled by the appearance of the Moon. The strains of the music delightful to the ear have started. Women of good moral character are sleeping with their husbands.

The wise Hanuman saw the Royal palaces crowded with chariots, horses with seats of Gold. The proud Rakshasa heroes railed at one another in profusion, threw about their arms, uttered wild and incoherent words and insulted each other. The Rakshasa thumped their chests and placed their arms on the person dear to them. They also put on various garbs to please their own and drew strong bows in a show of might. Some of the lovely women for their part applied Sandalwood paste to their bodies, some of the women were sleeping in their mansions. Some with lovely countenance and features were laughing where as others angered through love were hissing like serpents. With trumpeting elephants, virtuous and greatly adored souls like Vibhishana, as well as hissing heroes, the city looked like a lake infested with snakes among other things.

Hanuman also saw Yatudhanas who were primarily intellectual, who were of sweet expression with constant singing, fully devout, dressed in various garbs. They were called by charming names. Hanuman rejoiced in seeing them who behaved in consonance with their virtues.

Hanuman however did not find the frail Sita who sprung from the mind of the creator, the Sita who is a born princess, the Sita who always pursued the path of virtue, the Sita who resembled a lovely creeper in full bloom. Not finding Sita the consort of Sri Rama the ruler of men, consort of the Sri Rama the best of speakers, Hanuman at once became sorrowful.

Hanuman could not find Sita who was firmly established in the path of devotion to her husband, the Sita who had her eyes fixed on Sri Rama alone, the Sita who was possessed by love for Sri Rama, the Sita who had penetrated deep into the mind of her spouse, the Sita who was ever exalted above all other women, the Sita whose throat was choked with tears flowing incessantly, the Sita who had a charming look when united with her husband, the Sita who was distinguished by beautiful eyelashes, the Sita who shone like a crescent moon with out line blurred being in captivity , the Sita who in her captivity shone like streak of gold soiled with dust, the Sita who shone like a streak of cloud as she was carried away through the skies to Lanka.

"After searching everywhere not finding the Sita the wife of Srirama , the best of speakers and the leader of men , Hanuman became became disconcerted and was lost for a moment not knowing what to do!!"
