Chapter16

Having admired the admirable Sita and praising Rama for his excellences Hanuman became absorbed in his thoughts again. Reflecting awhile and with eyes brimming with tears he started lamenting fate of Sita. He said to himself “ if even Sita, who deserves all honor and who is the consort of SriRama, who has been instructed in all the morals is now stricken with sorrow indeed it is difficult to withstand the force of destiny for anyone. Conscious of the prowess of SriRama as well as Lakshmana the God like Lady Sita will not feel agitated . SriRama is worthy of Sita , the princess of Videha, whose character and age and conduct are well matched with his and whose pedigree and bodily marks are well matched with his . This dark eyed lady Sita is worthy of SriRama “.

Perceiving Sita who looked quite young and shone like Gold and resembled Lakshmi, Hanuman again remembered SriRama and said to himself as follow.

“ For the sake of this Lady Vali and Kabandha were killed . Even the Rakshasa Viraadha was killed by Srirama like the killing of Sambara by Lord Indra. Fourteen thousand Rakshasas were killed in Janasthana.. Khara too was slain. So were TriSira and Dushana . Because of her Sugriva attained the Lordship of Vanaras which was difficult to achieve because of it being the domain of Vali. For the sake of this lady I have crossed the ocean in search of her . If for her sake Rama turned the earth upside down it would be justifiable, such indeed is my belief. If the sovereignty of the three worlds and on the other hand Sita the daughter of King Janaka were put on scales I have no doubt the sovereignty of three worlds would not equal Sita. She is the celebrated daughter of King Janaka . While a field is being plowed she rose splitting open the earth . She is the senior most daughter in law of King Dasaratha.”

The very Sita of Golden limbs, ever given to speaking with a smile and undeserving of foes who is contented with fruits and roots is undergoing suffering here. Like a thirsty man longing for water, this scion of Rama is longing for his wife Sita. SriRam will derive joy through recovery of her like a king recovering his throne,. Deprived of all coveted enjoyments and bereft of her kinfolk she preserves her body desirous of meeting him only. She neither sees the Rakshasa women around her, nor those fruits and flowers. Her heart is centered on one object alone. She undoubtedly beholds SriRama alone.

My mind too is seized with anguish on finding this lady with dark hair afflicted though deserving of happiness . She who is forbearing as earth who was once protected by Sri Rama and Lakshmana, is now guarded by Rakshasa women with deformed eyes. Deprived of her charms like a lotus plant blasted by a frost being sorely depressed by a series of misfortunes she has been reduced to a pitiable plight like a female Chakravaka bird without her mate.

Duly considering all aspects the mighty Hanuman who is full of impetuosity who is convinced that she is indeed Sita remained firmly seated on that tree.
