Chapter17

Then the bright moon resembling the white lotuses rose into the clear sky like a swan plunging into the blue waters. The gentle soothing rays seemed to aid Hanuman in his mission. Then he saw Sita who was weighed down with sorrow of separation from her husband

As he strained to see Vaidehi , Hanuman saw frightful looking Rakshasa women surrounding Sita. They consisted of one eyed woman, woman with one ear , woman with her ear stretching around her head. There was one without ears. One had pointed ears. One had her nose stretching to forehead. Some had long and thin necks . Some one's hair was disheveled. Some one was covered with hair all over. Some had protruding bellies. Some had long faces spacious foreheads. Some were tall. Some were dwarfish. Some had feet like elephant. Some had big feet. Some had feet like that of a cow. Some had hairy feet. Some were brown. Some were black. Some bore the resemblance of variety of animals. They were carrying variety of arms.

Thus Hanuman saw fearsome Rakshasa women surrounding the Simsupa tree.

Hanuman gazed on that lady who was drowning in a sea of sorrow there in the midst of Ashokavan. Surrounded by those Rakshasa women she was resembling the Star Rohini surrounded by evil planets or like the creeper stripped of its blossoms. There was no friend or relation standing by her. She appeared like an young elephant astray from the herd and surrounded by lions. The sight of her husband was beyond her reach. She looked miserable and sad.

Gazing upon that woman with intoxicating eyes Hanuman shed tears of joy and made obeisance to SriRama . Then the mighty Vanara having paid obeisance to SriRama and Lakshmana remained in the hiding delighted at having found Sita .
