Chapter 47

Hearing that the the five heroic Rakshasas Virupaksha , Rupaaksha, Durdhara, Praghasa and Bhasakarna have been killed

When the Rakshasa King Ravana heard about the destruction of the five generals along with their army and their vehicles, standing before him was the young prince Aksha who was full of lust for battle and was ready to engage himself in battle. When Ravan's looked at prince Aksha, he stood up immediately expressing his readiness to battle Hanuman.

Then the heroic warrior Aksha seating himself in a chariot which was protected by armor of pure gold and which shone like the rising sun moved ahead for attacking the great Vanara.

The sound produced by his armies consisting of horses elephants, and chariots filled sky as well as the earth with its mountains. Followed by such army Aksha approached the Vanara who was waiting at the top of the tower. Then the prince Aksha who was master of all the branches of archery shot three poisoned arrows with golden shafts and winged feathers resembling serpents aimed at the head of the great Vanara.

When the shower of arrows fell on him Hanuman gave out a roaring sound like a thunder. Extending his hands and legs assuming terrible form he quickly rose up in the sky. The best among charioteers and the powerful Rakshasa prince sitting in his chariot sent forth a stream of arrows on Hanuman like the hail storm raining pieces of ice on a mountain. Seeing the valor of the young prince Hanuman was lost in thoughts of admiration. Then he decded that he must kill Price Aksha now lest he grow into a more confident more redoubtable warrior .

Then the son of Vayu attacking prince Aksha from the sky destroyed the eight horses of Aksha's chariot. These are the horses which knew no fatigue and were capable of carrying the weight of the chariot as it moved in different directions. Struck by Hanuman's hands the chariot with its horses killed broke into pieces and fell on the earth

Then Aksha , the fierce charioteer, holding his bow and sword and abandoning his chariot rose up in the sky like the men of great austerity who abandoning their bodies rise towards heavens. Then the most powerful Vanara caught hold of Aksha like the great Garuda catching hold of the serpent. Then whirling him around in the sky threw him to the ground with great force. The Rakshasa then fell in a pool of blood with his limbs back bone and neck all broken with all his bones shattered and eyes popping out.

After thus having killed Aksha kumara who shone like the son of Indra, Hanuman went back to the top of the archway at the entrance of the grove waiting for the arrival of more Rakshasas like the goddess of death awaiting its victims.
