We are pleased to report on the activities of the Athato Foundation, a Kasarabada Trust, including the new additions in 2022-23.
During 2022-23, the Athato Foundation awarded three more scholarships to Sanskrit students in honor of Sri Bhashyam Appalaacaaryulu garu, for the three-year degree program at PR Govt College Kakinada (AP). Sri Bhashyam Appalaacaaryulu Garu was the Sanskrit lecturer at PR Govt College from 1959-62, when we were students at that college. The scholarships are for students who opted for Sanskrit as their second language in the degree program. The college disbursed the scholarships to three Sanskrit students over three years. We are grateful to the college management for their cooperation. Scholarships have been awarded continuously for the last five years.
The Athato Foundation continued the Kasarabada Scholars program at PR Govt College, Kakinada, AP, by providing scholarships to three undergraduate students in the three-year BSc degree program and two PG students in the MSc (Physics). The two PG scholarships were awarded in the name of Pandit Elchuri Vijayraghavrao.
The Athato Foundation also supported two awards of Rs. 5000/- each under the Kasarabada Kamaraju Research Awards (KKRA) for the Best project in the Computer and Electronics departments.
The total number of student scholarships at PR Govt College Kakinada is now seven, and research awards under KKRA are two.
During 2022-23, three students were awarded Kasarabada Scholarships at Hindu College Guntur. The Athato Foundation instituted the Kasarabada Scholars program at Hindu College Guntur, AP, in 2019-20, which supports three scholarships, carrying an award of Rs. 750 per month to each student in the three-year BSc degree program. These scholarships have now continued for three years in a row and are slated to continue further.
At Guntur, the Kasarabada Trust earlier instituted two awards in the name of Kasarabada Gopala Krishna garu for the Best Student and Padmashri Pandit Vijay Raghav Rao garu for the Best Teacher award. This has been continued by the school for more than a decade now.
The Athato Foundation continued the Kasarabada Scholar program at Gayathri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering for four students in 2021-22. The Kasarabada Scholar receives Rs. 2000/- per month for the nine months of the academic calendar, amounting to Rs. 18,000/-.
The Athato Foundation instituted two research awards of Rs. 10,000/- each under the KKRA (Kasarabada Kamaraju Research Awards Scheme) in 2020-21. The foundation also instituted an award of Rs. 5,000/- for the Best student in Gayatri Vidya Parishad College of Engineering for women. The award amount has been increased to Rs. 7,500 for 2021-22.
Thus, a total of 15 scholars are supported by the Athato Foundation. The foundation also supported four research awards under the KKRA program, a Best student award, and two awards at the MGH School, Guntur. All of the above programs are slated to continue during the academic year 2023-24.
The Trust has been the beneficiary of the generosity of its patrons during 2022-23. Specifically, this year, support has been received from Shri PC Murali (Rs. 24,000). The support received will go a long way towards establishing the long-term stability of the Trust activities through Athato Foundation.
