Sundarakanda
Sarga 34

Sita gave her introduction, saying she is the wife of valiant Rama ('bhāryā rāmasya dhīmataḥ'); She also confirmed her helplessness saying she will give up her life after the deadline set by Ravana ( "tataḥ tyakṣyāmi jīvitaṁ')

Hanuma has already resolved that assuring Sita is his first duty. Now Hanuman goes about that task in this Sarga,

We continue with Slokas of thirty fourth Sarga.

tasyāt tadvacanaṁ śrutvā hanumān hariyūdhapaḥ|
duḥkhā duḥkhābhibhūtāyāḥ sāṁtva muttara mabravīt||34.01||

sa|| hariyūdhapaḥ duḥkhāt duḥkhābhibhūtāyāḥ tasyāḥ tat vacanaṁ śrutvā sāṁtvaṁ uttaraṁ abravīt||

kalyāṇī batagāthēyaṁ laukīki pratibhāti mā|
ēti jīvitamānaṁdō naraṁ varṣaśatādapi||34.06||

sa||] jīvaṁtaṁ naraṁ varṣaśatādapi jīvaṁtaṁ (tadā) ānaṁdaḥ ēti laukīki gādhā kalyāṇi iti mē pratibhāti||

naraṁ varṣaśatādapi jīvaṁtaṁ -
the human being if he lives hundred years
(tadā) ānaṁdaḥ ēti -
finds happiness
laukīki gādhā -
that popular adage
kalyāṇi iti mē pratibhāti -
appears to me as auspicious

"The popular adage that ' the human being who lives hundred years finds happiness ', appears to me as true". ||34.06||

That adage is as follows."ēti jīvanti mānaṁdō naraṁ varṣa śatādapi"
" Human being who lives hundred years finds happiness"

That is just not an adage. It is also a spiritual truth according to Appalacharyulu.

Bliss is Brahman. Jiva separated from Brahman, is lost in world of sorrows. Separated Jiva goes through many cycles of birth and rebirth. After many such cycles his focus moves towards spirituality. With spirituality he experiences the Bliss. That 'Bliss' is Brahman. Experiencing the bliss is attaining Brahman. Attaining Brahman is the true completion of life cycle. Thus, life cycle is not a cycle of birth and death. The life cycle is complete only when one experiences Brahman. Thus, the life cycle truly ends with bliss.

Thus, Appalacharyulu garu says the Jiva separated from Brahman, reuniting Brahma is the completion of Life cycle.
That is the hundred years of Life cycle.

Thus, the true meaning of the adage, "achieving happiness if one completes life cycle of Hundred years" is about man experiencing Brahman, if he is at it.

That life cycle always ends in delight. That is also why in the Hindu tradition, the great epics and dramas which replicate worldly life, always conclude in happiness.

There is another point to be noted here , according to Appalacharyulu garu. The man did not attain happiness or delight. "ānaṁdaḥ naraṁ ēti"- "Bliss envelops the man". The Jiva or man did not attain the Bhagavan. When the man turns his mind towards spirituality, becomes obsessed with spiritual matters, Bhagavan out of love envelops him. The bliss or experiencing of Brahman happens.

Does everybody experience Brahman? How does that happen? After how many years one experiences Brahman?
The answers to all these questions are thus embedded in the adage."ēti jīvanti mānaṁdō naraṁ varṣa śatādapi"

Sita says that with grateful feeling , having learnt about welfare of Rama Lakshmana, Sita

parasparēṇa cālāpaṁ viśvastautau pracakratuḥ||34.07||

sa|| samāgatē tasmin tathā adbhutā prītiḥ utpāditā | tau viśvastau parasparēṇa ālāpaṁ ca cakratuḥ||

" Oh Vanara tell my dear Rama's virtues, Oh Gentle one! Like the currents wear away the river bank, you are luring my mind". ||34.19||

"Like the currents wear away the river bank, you are luring my mind"; the river currents have the force and they wear away the river bank. So what is it that Hanuman has, which is luring Sita's mind? Tilaka Tika says, the answer is hanuman's knowledge of Rama; 'maccitta tāpakarṣakatvaṁ rāma guṇa jñānaṁ ēva iti sūcitam'.

ahō svapnasya sukhatā yā'hamēvaṁ cirāhr̥tā||34.20||
prēṣitaṁ nāma paśyāmi rāghavēṇa vanaukasaṁ|

"guṇān rāmasya kathaya" means "Tell me Rama's virtues"
This is an invitation to Hanuma to sing about Rama's virtues.
That is one thing Hanuma does every time he gets chance.

Hanuma starts off saying, "Glorious like Sun.. etc". This starting point is a high praise. This is almost like the well-known Stuti , "rājādhirājāya prasahya sāhinē namō vayaṁvaiśravaṇāya kūrmahē..,"
and it flows.

Saying "nāhamasmi tathā dēvīÓ, that he is not that Ravana; Saying "tēnāhaṁ prēṣitō.." , that he has been sent by Rama as a messenger, singing praises of Rama, "āditya iva tējaśvī", Hanuma tries to assure Sita, and bring peace to her troubled mind, which is locked in a whirlpool of doubts.

Thus, ends the thirty fourth Sarga of Sundarakanda in Ramayana.

Rama's name and Rama's story bring peace to a troubled mind. For Sita, momentarily lost in the fear and doubts of Ravana again appearing in the form of a Vanara, Hanuman's recital gives peace

ityārṣē śrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē vālmīkīyē
caturviṁśat sahasrikāyāṁ saṁhitāyām
śrīmatsuṁdarakāṁḍē catustriṁśassargaḥ||.

Thus ends the thirty fourth Sarga of Sundarakanda in Ramayana the first ever poem composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki.
