What are the fourfold qualifications?
The fourfold qualificatiosn are as follows:

The capacity to discriminate between the permanent and the impermananent. Detachment towards the enjoyment of fruits of ones own actions here and here after.
The group of six accomplishments begining with Sama, and
The yearning for Moksha ( liberation !)

The invocation ended with a statement that in Tatvabhodha, " we will explain to those who are endowed with fourfold qualifications etc". So the first question is really what are the fourfold qualifications ?. So that it will allow us to know who are such persons.

The answer is also stated immediately. The answer given in the four lines that follow the question is about the fourfold qualification. It may sound clear but in the traditional dialog of a Guru and Sishya of the olden times the little bit vagueness is not left easily. So further questions follow on each of the lines with answers also embedded..

What is meant by discrimination between the permanent and impermanent ? The Reality ( Brahman) alone is eternal . Every thing else is non-eternal or ephemeral.
This alone is the discrimination between the permanent and impermanent.

Viveka is the capacity of intellect to distinguish one thing form another thing. One of the fourfold qualification is that ability to distinguish the permament from the impermanent.

A commmon ability of alll human beings is the ability to distinguish one physical thing form another. Good and bad. Ugly beautiful and the ugly , Happiness and unhappiness etc. We are after happiness and we run after things that are seemingly source of happiness. A child runs after a candy ( or what ever he desires). At every stage we run after some thing or other without realizing how temporary is such happiness. What is required is that ability to distinguish between that which lasts ( permanent) and that which is illusory !.

Clearly what is everlasting is that Brahman the Supreme reality or Supreme being.

Then comes the second qualification.

विरागः कः ?
इहस्वर्गभोगेषु इच्छाराहित्यम् ।

విరాగః కః ?
ఇహస్వర్గభోగేషు ఇచ్ఛారాహిత్యమ్ |

ವಿರಾಗಃ ಕಃ ?
ಇಹಸ್ವರ್ಗಭೋಗೇಷು ಇಚ್ಛಾರಾಹಿತ್ಯಮ್ |

What is dispassion or detachment?
The absence of desire for the enjoyment in this world and in heaven !

The second qualification is detachment/ dispassion>

So what is detachment or diapssion?

It is not detachment to life or family. It is detachment towards fruits of one's action. The action is a necessary part of life. But performing your duty ( Karma ) without concern about the results is detachment. Detachment requires discrimination . Discrimination the ability to distinguish between the right and wrong .

Detachment purifies the mind .

Detachment brings in equanimity .

Thus ends lesson 2
