Vivekachudamani Slokas 262-263
Sloka 262:
without any changes, not small, impershable;
When the whole world is seen as a form of Brahman,
how is it that Guru says that it is without changes.
We see many forms with many names and and many
charactrestics in our ignorance. When the ignorance
is overcome , we realize that everything is Brahman.
Nothing has changed with Brahman, only our
understanding of reality dawned. Thus Brahman is
without changes. In Vedas we hear it is the sky, it
is the earth etc. That Brahman, associated with sky
and earth, is not small. We also know that
Brahman has no begining and no end. With no begining
and and end, it is infinite. Hence, that Brahman is
not small. Guru said the same thing.
That which is different from perishable and
impreishable; and that which is Supreme;
"क्षर, अक्षर" are the words we hear in Gita ( 15th
are two beings in the world. One is perishable and
other imperishable. Krishna says, there is a another
(third). -"उत्तमपुरुषः अन्यः"- ; The supreme
Purusha is another - he is called Paramatman ; Here
Guru refers to that Brahman, which is different from
both persishable and imperishable.
eternal, undiminished bliss, devoid of ignorance;
realize that Brahman is yourself, meditate on that
in your mind
Sloka summary 262:
"That which is without any changes, which is not
small, that which is impershable; that which is
different from perishable and imperishable; and that
which is Supreme ; that which is eternal,
undiminished bliss, devoid of ignorance ; Realize
that Brahman is yourself, meditate on that in your
mind".
Sloka 263
that one reality which appears as many due to
delusion;
that which is with changes of different names, forms
and charactrestics;
like gold itself unchanging ;
The same gold undergoes many changes of forms,
appearing as wonderful ornaments in the hands of a
gold smith, though all of that is the same gold.
Brahman to appears in many forms though it is the
same Brahman.
Realize that Brahman is yourself, meditate on that
in your mind
Summary of sloka 263:
That one reality which appears as many, with changes
of different names, forms and charactrestics due to
delusion ; like gold itself unchanging; Realize that
Brahman is yourself, meditate on that in your mind.
Here Guru having established "that thou art", is
elaborating on Brahman , telling the disciple to
focus on that Brahmanin ihis mind.
