Slokas 431-433 with meanings in English
Guru again defines Jivanmukta in Sloka 431, then follows it up with the mark of a Jivanmukta in Slokas 432 and 433.
Sloka 431:
शान्त संसार कलनः
कलावानपि निष्कलः।
यः सचित्तोपि निश्चित्तः
स जीवन्मुक्त इत्युच्यते॥
1 शान्त संसार कलनः -
one whose afflictions for Samsara are stilled;
He is one whose cares and anxieties of Samsara are stilled
2 कलावानपि निष्कलः -
though adept in all Vidyas, devoid of all learning (other than Brahman);
3 यः स चित्तोपि निश्चित्तः -
though possessed of mind yet free from mind;
4 स जीवन्मुक्त इत्युच्यते -
He ,(such a one as above), is called Jivanmukta
Summary of Sloka 431 :
"One whose afflictions for Samsara are stilled, one whose cares and anxieties of Samsara are stilled, one though possessed of mind yet free from mind, such a one is called Jivanmukta, liberated even while living".
Sloka 432:
वर्तमानेऽपि देहेऽस्मिं
छायावत् अनुवर्तिनि।
अहंता ममताभावो
जीवन्मुक्तस्य लक्षणम्॥
2 छायावत् अनुवर्तिनि -
one that follows like a shadow;
1 वर्तमानेऽपि देहेऽस्मिं- अस्मिन् देहे वर्तमाने अपि-
Though being present in this body ;
3. अहंता ममत अभावो -
absence of the concept of "I" and "mine";
4 जीवन्मुक्तस्य लक्षणम् - (these are) the mark of a Jivanmukta, one who is liberated even while living
Summary of Sloka 432:
Absence of the concepts of "I" and "mine, though living in this body which follows one like a shadow, is the mark of a Jivanmukta one who is liberated even while living.
Sloka 433:
अतीताननुसन्धानं
भविष्यत् अविचारिणम्।
औदासीन्यमपि प्ताप्ते
जीवन्मुक्तस्य लक्षणम्
1 अतीताननुसन्धानं -अतीतान् न अनुसंधानम्-
not pondering over what has been;
2 भविष्यत् अविचारिणम्. -
not pondering over what will be;
3 औदासीन्यमपि प्ताप्ते -
indifferent to that of the present;
4 जीवन्मुक्तस्य लक्षणम् -
this the mark of a Jivanmukta;

Summary of Sloka 433 : not pondering over what has been, not pondering over what will be, being indifferent to that of the present is the mark of a Jivanmukta, one who is liberated even while living;
