Chapter 47

When the Rakshasa king heard about the destruction of the five generals along with their army and their vehicles, there standing before him was the young prince Aksha who was full of lust for battle and was ready to engage himself in battle.

Then the heroic warrior seating himself in a chariot which was protected by armor of pure gold and which shone like the rising sun started for attacking the great Vanara.

The sound produced by his armies consisting of horses elephants, and chariots filled the sky as well as the earth with its mountains. Followed by such army Aksha approached the Vanara who was waiting at the top of the Tower. Then that hero who was master of all the branches of archery shot three poisoned arrows with golden shafts and winged feathers resembling serpents aimed at the head of the great Vanara.

When the shower of arrows fell on him, Hanuman gave out a roaring sound like a thunder. Extending his hands and legs and assuming terrible form he quickly rose up in the sky. The best among charioteers and the powerful Rakshasa prince sitting in his chariot sent forth a stream of arrows on Hanuman like the hailstorm raining pieces of ice on a mountain.

Then the son of Vayu attacking from the sky destroyed the eight horses of Aksha's chariot. These are the horses which knew no fatigue and were capable of carrying the weight of the chariot as it moved in different directions. Struck by Hanuman'shands the chariot with its horses killed broke into pieces and fell on the earth

Then the fierce charioteer holding his bow and sword and abandoning his chariot rose up in the sky like the men of great austerity who abandoning their bodies rise towards heavens. Then the most powerful Vanara caught hold of Aksha like the great Garuda catching hold of the serpent. Then whirling him around in the sky threw him to the ground with great force. The Rakshasa then fell in a pool of blood with his limbs back bone and neck all broken with all his bones shattered and eyes popping out.

Thus after having killed Prince Aksha who shone like the son of Indra, Hanuman went back to the top of the archway at the entrance of the grove, waiting for the arrival of more Rakshasas like the goddess of death awaiting its victims.
