Sarga 60

"ತಥಾ ಭವಾನ್ ಪಶ್ಯತು ಕಾರ್ಯಸಿದ್ಧಿಂ"  ; "you see how the task can be successfully completed" The task is to be completed , the way it is in the mind of Rama. These are words of Jambavan.

Hanuma, forgetting Sita's words, said that many of the Vanaras can accomplish the task of killing Ravana. Hence he said that it is better they carry Sita with them to Rama. At the end though, Hanuma left the decision to the others.

Angada takes that thought further, and insists that they go to Rama only along with Sita. Angada is the prince. His word cannot be set aside easily 

Jambavan is an old wise man. He knows how to move the things. So, he tells Angada, that he is right. But reminds everybody about the original plan. All of this is happening because of Rama. Now also they need to know what is in Rama's mind. Only after that next course of action can be finalized.

This is what we hear from Valmiki in this Sarga.

Now we will go through the Slokas of Sarga number sixty..

||Sloka 60.01||

ತಸ್ಯ ತದ್ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ವಾಲಿಸೂನುರಭಾಷತ|

ಅಯುಕ್ತಂ ತು ವಿನಾ ದೇವೀಂ  ದೃಷ್ಟವದ್ಭಿಶ್ಚ ವಾನರಾಃ||60.01||

ಸಮೀಪಂ ಗನ್ತುಮಸ್ಮಾಭೀ ರಾಘವಸ್ಯ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ|

ಸ|| ತಸ್ಯ ಹನುಮತಸ್ಯ ತತ್ ವಚನಂ ಶ್ರುತ್ವಾ ವಾಲಿ ಸೂನುಃ ಅಭಾಷತ|| ವಾನರಾಃ ದೃಷ್ಟವದ್ಭಿಃ ಅಸ್ಮಾಭಿಃ ದೇವೀ ವಿನಾ ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ ರಾಘವಸ್ಯ ಸಮೀಪಂ ಗಂತುಂ ಅಯುಕ್ತಂ ತು||

ವಾನರಾಃ ದೃಷ್ಟವದ್ಭಿಃ ಅಸ್ಮಾಭಿಃ - 

Vanaras, by us who have seen Sita 

ಮಹಾತ್ಮನಃ ರಾಘವಸ್ಯ ಸಮೀಪಂ -

 near great soul Rama 

ದೇವೀ ವಿನಾ ಗಂತುಂ ಅಯುಕ್ತಂ ತು - 

going without Sita is not proper

ದೃಷ್ಟಾದೇವೀ ನ ಚಾಽಽನೀತಾ ಇತಿ ತತ್ರ ನಿವೇದನಮ್||60.02||

ಅಯುಕ್ತಮಿವ ಪಶ್ಯಾಮಿ ಭವದ್ಭಿಃ ಖ್ಯಾತವಿಕ್ರಮೈಃ|

ಸ|| ಖ್ಯಾತವಿಕ್ರಮೈಃ ಭವದ್ಭಿಃ ದೇವೀ ದೃಷ್ಟಾ ನ ಆನೀತಾ ಚ ಇತಿ ತತ್ರ ನಿವೇದಿತುಂ ಅಯುಕ್ತಂ ಇವ ಪಶ್ಯಾಮಿ||

ಖ್ಯಾತವಿಕ್ರಮೈಃ ಭವದ್ಭಿಃ -

 by you who are known as powerful 

ದೇವೀ ದೃಷ್ಟಾ ನ ಆನೀತಾ ಚ -

 Sita was seen but not brought 

ಇತಿ ತತ್ರ ನಿವೇದಿತುಂ - 

conveying that  there  

ಅಯುಕ್ತಂ ಇವ ಪಶ್ಯಾಮಿ - 

I see it as inappropriate.

ಹರಿಸತ್ತಮಾಃ - o best of Vanaras

ಅಮರ ದೈತ್ಯೇಷು ಲೋಕೇಷು -

 among Devas or Daityas all over

ನಃ  ಪ್ಲವನೇ ಕಶ್ಚಿನ್  ತುಲ್ಯಃ ನ - 

none who can equal us in flying 

ಪರಾಕ್ರಮೇ ಅಪಿ ಕಶ್ಚಿನ್ ನ- 

 in strength too none

"O best of Vanaras, there is none among Devas or Daityas who can equal us in our strength or in our ability flying in the sky". ||60.03||

ಜಿತ್ವಾ ಲಂಕಾಂ ಸರಕ್ಷೌಘಾಂ ಹತ್ವಾ ತಂ ರಾವಣಂ ರಣೇ

ವಿಚೇತುಂ ವಯಮಾಜ್ಞಪ್ತಾ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಂ ದಿಶಮುತ್ತಮಾಮ್||60.09||

ಸ|| ಮಹಾಬುದ್ಧೇ ಮಹಾಕಪೇ ನ ಏಷಾ ಬುದ್ಧಿಃ| ವಯಂ ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಂ ದಿಶಮುತ್ತಮಾಮ್ ವಿಚೇತುಂ ಇತಿ ಆಜ್ಞಪ್ತಾ||

Oh, great Vanara

ನ ಏಷಾ ಬುದ್ಧಿಃ -

ದಕ್ಷಿಣಾಂ ದಿಶಮುತ್ತಮಾಮ್ ವಿಚೇತುಂ -

 in the Southern direction to search 

ಇತಿ ವಯಂ ಆಜ್ಞಪ್ತಾ- 

thus we were ordered

"Oh, great Vanara, that thought is not appropriate. We were ordered to go in the Southern direction in search of Sita". ||60.09||

Jambavan is referring to the thought of bringing Sita too and then going to Rama. That he says is inappropriate. he gives reasons.

ನಾನೇತುಂ ಕಪಿರಾಜೇನ ನೈವ ರಾಮೇಣ ಧೀಮತಾ|

ಕಥಂಚಿನ್ನಿರ್ಜಿತಾಂ ಸೀತಾಂ ಅಸ್ಮಾಭಿರ್ನಾಭಿರೋಚಯೇತ್||60.10||

ಕಥಂಚಿತ್  ಅಸ್ಮಾಭಿಃ ನಿರ್ಜಿತಾಮ್- even if we are victorious 

( ತಥಾಪಿ) ನ ಅಭಿರೋಚಯೇತ್ - may not be very happy

‘Bringing her back was not mentioned by the king of Vanaras or sagacious Rama. Gaining victory in some way and carrying her back may not be liked ||60.11||

ವಿಫಲಂ ಕರ್ಮ ಚ ಕೃತಂ ಭವೇತ್ ತುಷ್ಟಿರ್ನ ತಸ್ಯ ಚ||

ವೃಥಾ ಚ ದರ್ಶಿತಂ ವೀರ್ಯಂ ಭವೇದ್ವಾನರಪುಂಗವಾಃ||60.12||

ಸ||  ಕೃತಂ ಕರ್ಮ ಚ ವಿಫಲಂ ಭವೇತ್| ತಸ್ಯ ತುಷ್ಟಿಃ ನ ಚ| ವಾನರಪುಂಗವಾಃ ದರ್ಶಿತಂ ವೀರ್ಯಂ ವೃಥಾ ಚ ಭವೇತ್|

ನ ತಾವದೇಷಾ ಮತಿರಕ್ಷಮಾನೋ 

ಯಥಾ ಭವಾನ್ಪಶ್ಯತಿ ರಾಜಪುತ್ತ್ರ|

ಯಥಾ ತು ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ಮತಿರ್ನಿವಿಷ್ಟಾ

ತಥಾ ಭವಾನ್ಪಶ್ಯತು ಕಾರ್ಯಸಿದ್ಧಿಮ್||60.14||

ಸ||  ರಾಜಪುತ್ರ ಯಥಾ ಭವಾನ್ಪಶ್ಯತಿ ಏಷಾ ಮತಿಃ ನಃ ನ ಅಕ್ಷಮಾ| ಯಥಾ ತು ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ಮತಿಃ ನಿವಿಷ್ಟಾ ತಥಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಸಿದ್ಧಿಂ ಭವಾನ್ ಪಶ್ಯತು||

Tilaka Tika says-  ಅಥ ಜಾಮ್ಬವಾನ್ ಅಂಗದ ಕ್ರೋಥಪರಿಹಾರಾಯ ತನ್ಮತಂ ಬಹುಮಾನ್ಯ ಸುಹೃತ್ ಭಾವೇನ ನಿವರ್ತಯತಿ  - ನತಾವತ್ ಇತಿ| ಹೇರಾಜಪುತ್ರ ಯಥಾ ಭವಾನ್ ಪಶ್ಯತಿ ವಿಚಾರಯತಿ ಏಷಾ ಮತಿಃ ನಃ  ಅಸ್ಮಾಕಂ  ಅಕ್ಷಮಾ ನ, ಕಿನ್ತು ಯುಕ್ತೈವ| ಯಥಾ ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ಮತಿಃ ನಿರ್ವಿಷ್ಟಾ ಅವಸ್ಥಿತಾ ತಥಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಸಿದ್ಧಿಂ ಭವಾನ್ ಪಶ್ಯತು ಇತ್ಯರ್ಥಃ|| 

Govindaraja Tika says - ಅಥ ಜಾಂಬವಾನ್ ಅಂಗದವಾಕ್ಯಂ ಬಹು ಮನ್ಯಮಾನಃ ಸುಹೃತ್ ಭಾವೇನ ಪ್ರತಿಷೇದತಿ - ನ ತಾವತ್ ಇತಿ| ಅಕ್ಷಮಾ ಅಯುಕ್ತಾ ನಕಿಂತು ಯುಕ್ತೇವೈತಿ ಇತ್ಯರ್ಥಃ|  ಯದ್ಯಪಿ ಸಮ್ಯಗುಕ್ತಂ ಸಮರ್ಥೈಶ್ಚಾಪಿ ರಾಮಾಜ್ಞಾನುಸಾರೇಣ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯಂ  ನ ಸ್ವಾತನ್ತ್ರ್ಯೇಣ ಇತ್ಯರ್ಥಃ||

||Sloka meanings||

ರಾಜಪುತ್ರ ಯಥಾ ಭವಾನ್ಪಶ್ಯತಿ - 

O prince , whatever you have projected 

ಏಷಾ ಮತಿಃ ನಃ ನ ಅಕ್ಷಮಾ - 

that thought is not inappropriate 

ಯಥಾ ತು ರಾಮಸ್ಯ ಮತಿಃ ನಿವಿಷ್ಟಾ - 

but knowing the mind of Rama 

ತಥಾ ಕಾರ್ಯಸಿದ್ಧಿಂ ಭವಾನ್ ಪಶ್ಯತು - 

you should act in that way to accomplish the task

"Oh Prince, though your suggestion is not inappropriate , but knowing the mind of Rama and then act in that way to ensure victory".||60.14||
